Lake Hāwea Station was named in Conde Nast Traveler; Gold List 2023 for the best hotels and resorts in the world. Located on stunning Lake Hawea in the Southern Alps just 15mins from the town of Wanaka. The Lake House has three super king bedrooms, two bathrooms and a hot tub with panoramic views. Arrive and feel calm - it's The Lake House effect. The Historic shepherds huts, Packhorse with two bedrooms, and a chefs kitchen. Both Packhorse bedrooms have historic etchings on the walls from Shepherds of the past and skylights for star gazing in bed. Studio stay in a super king bed in wee Homespur cottage. Both cottages are in the heart of this working farm and have undergone conscious renovations which has seen them match genuine heritage with impeccable style. Each residence has an outdoor fire pit, outdoor dining and relaxing hot tubs. Little L is a tiny house in the middle of a paddock over-looking Lake Hawea. It has everything you need, including an outdoor bath and tiny library if you just want to stay in bed all day read. Each residence has a curated library with information about the climate and biodiversity crisis, climate positive and regenerative farming.

Educational Backcountry experiences and Eco-Tours can be added to your stay. Richie our resident guide has a Masters in wildlife and a deep fascination for our unique ecosystem.
Enquire to watch the working dogs muster and to visit the regenerative pastures on New Zealand's first certified Climate Positive Farm. Mountain Biking, fishing, hiking ... everything you expect in this part of the world is available on request.

Our newest offering ASTRONOMY 101 (Star gazing)
The night sky of the lower South Island is among the clearest in the world, enabling you to see deep into space with just the naked eye. Those partaking in this immersive experience will explore the solar system and its planetary bodies, the Milky Way Galaxy and beyond. Learn about celestial navigation, the motion and cycles of space, shooting stars and Māori interpretations of the cosmos. As the renown scientist David Jones once said “we are nothing but space dust, trying to find its way back to the stars”.

The Lake House effect

​The Lake House -our most exclusive 3 bedroom home. Built to bask in all day Central Otago sun. Provisioned with luxurious linens, wools and modern furnishings. The stunning lake view draws you beyond Lake Hawea to the Hunter Valley. This lakeside escape meets all your needs with a full kitchen and BBQ, dining area, laundry, fireside lounge, and movie room, (3 bedroom and 2 bathroom). Some of our favourite features include our Wilson and Dorset wool rugs, underfloor heating and the Stoked Spa Hot tub. A short walk to the lake.

Little L for our whenua lovers...

She's a modern tiny home - off grid, the deep fluffy bed faces toward the most iconic view on the property up the lake towards the mountains. It's completely private with outdoor bath (coming soon) and BBQ. She draws little power so you'll be rewilding but with gorgeous linen and a cute bathroom. There is a wee library and a fire pit. It's possible you'll be company of beautiful Merinos.

Bespoke Historic Cottages

​​Homespur Cottage is the darling of the station with a view of the pond (home to @mccrackenart rocket sculpture), lake and mountains.

Capacity: luxurious super king bed and twin bunks with bespoke LHS linen.

The cottage has a new simple kitchenette and toilet/bathroom. It’s treasured feature is the wee pot belly fire with ample wood stock. You can go to bed to the flicker of a fire or have pinot on the deck in the setting sun. The small touches like the LHS hot water bottles and the huge Moroccan outdoor rugs make your on Station experience unforgettable.

​Packhorse Cottage is a nod back to the past, with the walls having been decorated by the shepherds with mustering times and notes to each other, some dating back to 1941.

Capacity: The Cottage sleeps up to 6 people in two bedrooms. The master bedroom has 1 King bed with bespoke LHS linen. The second bedroom is home to a queen bed and a set of bunks. It makes for an ideal spot for a family or couples retreat.

The kitchen is a chef's dream and the sprawling deck is the perfect spot to bask in the Central Otago sun or enjoy a BBQ at the end of a day spent adventuring.
